Ronda Roussey is an American wrestler and former mixed martial artist best known for setting the UFC alight. Rousey was born in Riverside, California, on February 1, 1987. You could say Roussey was destined to become a professional fighter because fighting is in her blood. Rousey’s mother, AnnMaria De Mars, was a judoka expert and was the first American to win a World Judo Championship, doing so in 1984. Roussey followed in her mother’s footsteps and began learning judo with her mother, eventually winning a gold medal at the World Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary. She went on to win bronze in the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Roussey retired from judo aged 21-years-old and worked as a bartender and cocktail waitress. She always fancied her chances in MMA, but her judo teammates said she was too pretty to get hit in the face. Despite this, Roussey made it all the way to the pinnacle of MMA, the UFC, where she was regularly a favorite to win her fights with the world’s best online betting sites.

She became the first female UFC champion and successfully defended her title six times. Roussey’s average time in the octagon was two minutes 59 seconds, which was less than every single weight division in the competition.

Back-to-back defeats at the hands of Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes in 2015 and 2016 saw Roussey step away from the UFC, although she never announced her retirement.

Roussey made sporadic appearances in the WWE from 2014-17 before signing with WWE on a full-time basis in late 2017. She became a WWE champion and remained so for 231 days before losing her first fight and title. Roussey has not wrestled since 2019.
